S.W.K.A. 2011 Critique

Some close decisions in this good entry.  I found the main problems today to be action faults coming and lack of flexibility in the hock joint. A few hounds in fact appeared sickle hocked.  Profile movement was good in many of the hounds and several were in excellent muscular condition.  Coats varied in length and texture as usual, but I did think a few were over trimmed.   I feel there are some very promising youngsters in both sexes coming through and I hope they fulfil their potential.  As always, I try not to focus on any one fault or virtue, but to see the hound as a whole.

Puppy Dog (5)

A good class of youngsters all at different stages.

1.  Schaanning Ling’s Beardswood Quiver. Tall and rangy 9 months well boned puppy. Very pleasing head and expression, good length of neck and angulation of forequarters.  Straight forelegs, some spring of pastern.  Good depth of chest, topline a bit flat at the moment, good angulation to hindquarters.  Still to tighten in front action coming and although his tail is  ringed detracting from his profile outline moving,  he has a long reaching stride.

2.  Hawkins Kwaricott Corelli.  Nearly 12months and looking more finished than one, but not quite the depth of chest or overall scope.   Pleasing head shape and expression, just lacking furnishings at present. Well balanced angulation front and rear, firm tuck up and good width across thigh with well carried tail.  Front a bit erratic coming today, hindquarters more positive.  He is a very free mover in profile and is in super condition.

3.  Owen and Brodie’s Wolfscastle Orson.

Junior Dog (6)

1.  Peach’s Kilbourne Warhol.  15 months well grown and with plenty of scope overall. Strong neck into good layback of shoulder.  Good depth of chest, preferred his topline standing to 2, well muscled hindquarters of good width.  Movement sound coming and going, easy in profile with good tail carriage.

2.  Taylor’s Kilbourne Woodsman To Ormanstar. Litter brother to one and very close up.  Good head with neat ears, some spring of pastern, good depth and shapely underline with long ribbing.  Strong hindquarters and hocks well let down.  Not quite the movement of one coming and going, but preferred his slightly longer, free stride in profile.  Not as finished as his brother on the day, but two very promising youngsters.

3.  Stabb and Taylor’s Laird of Summerisle.

Post Grad Dog (3) (1)

1.  Wragg’s Neroche Irving.  Not a big lad, but extremely well balanced overall. Pleasing head, strong neck, good lay of shoulder and length of upperarm, neat feet, but nails a bit long.  Good depth, shapely underline and topline and well angulated hindquarters.  Moved well coming, a shade close behind and strode out well in profile with correct tail carriage.

2.  Owen and Brodie’s Wolfscastle Draig. Taller than one, heavier in type and  shown in lovely full coat. Good head, neat well carried ears, strong and muscular neck.  Well laid shoulder and some forechest.  Good depth of body and width across thigh, well carried tail.  Not quite as free moving as one in profile, but he was sound coming and going.

Limit Dog (6)

1.  Spence and Heathcote’s Hyndsight Riddick. Super balanced outline standing. Good head, neatest of ears, eyes a shade light.  Well angulated forequarters with some forechest, strong slightly arched neck..  Well ribbed back, firm in loin, broad, strong hindquarters with low set hocks.  Moved well coming and going and once he got into his stride had a flowing outline.  Considered for top honours.

2.  Peach’s Kilbourne Hector To Oelmuhle TAF. Not as forward in development as one, but balanced and shapely. Eyes could be darker,  elegant neck into good forequarters, not quite the depth of one.  Long ribbing, broad sweeping hindquarters, good tail carriage.  Moved well coming and going and an easy, reachy stride in profile.

3.  Adams Ardneish Lohengrin.

Open Dog (3) (1)

1.  Barret’s Stranwith Symphony. Mature, masculine hound shown in full coat and not over presented.  Dark eye and gentle expression, strong, reachy  neck into good forequarters. Excellent depth of chest and although he is a shade long in back, the length is in the ribcage.  Firm loin and  lovely sweeping hindquarters. Hocks well let down and tail correctly  carried.  He moved with an easy and active long stride and at just the right  pace.  In the challenge for BOB, just preferred the overall balance of the bitch.  CC.

2.  Hawkins Kwaricott Asclepius. Lovely head and neat ears, not quite the furnishings of one.  Strong neck of good length  into well angulated forequarters, deep chest and good tuck-up.  Broad and strong hindquarters with well muscled second thigh and low set hocks. Not quite the ease of stride of one in profile today, but he is a free moving dog and shown in excellent muscular condition. Res.CC

Puppy Bitch (4)

Lovely class all at different stages of development.

1.  Peach’s Kilbourne Teliah. Eye-catching  puppy, just getting to the legs and wings stage of development. Very pleasing head and expression, neatest of ears.  Elegant and reachy neck into good forequarters.  Adequate depth of chest for age, shapely underline, strong hindquarters with low hocks.   She really excels in profile movement, with  excellent front extension and using her hindquarters to good effect, giving a light effortless stride.  BP.

2.  Bailey Greyflax Just Peachy.  Confident and happy at just 6 months.  Well bodied and very together at the moment. Good head, neck and depth of chest.  Straight forelegs, just a shade down on pasterns at this age. Shapely topline and well angulated hindquarters, with hocks well let down. Not quite the scope of one in profile moving,  but another very promising baby.

3.  Hawkins Kwaricott Charisma.

Junior Bitch (8) (3)

1.  Peach’s Kilbourne Wendela.  Pleasing head and expression, ears just a bit low set. Well laid shoulder and length and return of upperarm.  Good depth of chest and spring of rib, would like slightly more spring of pastern, well muscled hindquarters. She is still to settle in front action coming, but comes into her own moving in profile, with excellent reach and drive.   Promising youngster.

2.  Barter and Christian’s Ehlaradawn Raindances. More at the legs and wings stage of development than one.   Pleasing head and expression, neat ears, not the depth of chest of one yet.  Good layback of shoulder, but not quite the length of upperarm, some forechest and adequate spring of pastern.  Shapely hindquarters, but still to muscle up, good tail carriage.  A little unsettled coming, but really strides out in profile.

3.  Barter and Christian Ehlaradawn Lady Fantasy.

Post Grad Bitch (10) (1)

1.  Adams Ardneish Pantalaimon. Well developed and very shapely bitch, shown in lovely full coat.  Good head and arch to neck, good shoulder and length of upperarm, good spring of pastern with well knuckled feet.  Good topline and sweeping broad hindquarters, with low hocks. She can tend to stand a little short, but comes into her own on the move, with a reachy ground covering stride. A strong, feminine and free moving bitch and a  well deserved Res CC in strong competition.

2.  Barter and Christian’s Hoddingrey Strahanna of Ehlaradawn. Liked this substantial, yet feminine bitch a lot, just not the depth and finish of one on the day. Good head shape and soft expression, ears could be a bit neater. Strong, muscular  neck of good length into well angulated forequarters, a shade upright in pastern. Good length of ribbing and well angulated and flowing hindquarters.  A bit loose still in front action coming, but has scope and elegance in profile and really used her hocks to move easily around the ring with a long stride.

3.  Mansell and Duddell Killoeter Pieris At Canerikie.

Limit Bitch (8) (1)

1.  Bailey’s Greyflax Crystal. Dark eye, with gentle expression, elegant neck into well laid shoulder, good  return of upper arm, some forechest.  Good depth of chest, straight forelegs with some spring of pastern, feet could be a bit tighter.  Well ribbed back, with firm tuck-up.Needs slightly more rear angulation to balance her completely, but she is very well muscled on her hindquarters.  Moves well coming and going and with an easy stride in profile. Strong contender for top honours today.

2.  Taylor’s Kilbourne Baccarat Ormanstar. Elegant, shapely bitch, not quite the body of one. Lovely head and expression, ears could be a bit neater. Strong neck of good length, good front angulation, shade upright in pastern.  Rear angulation well balanced with front and lovely sweep to quarters. A free moving bitch with overall scope and good tail carriage.

3.  Morgan’s Ladygrove Calamity Jane At Amiro.

Open Bitch (8) (4)

1.  Finnett and Heathcote Hyndsight Into The Mystic.  Super bitch, shapely and balanced throughout.  Lovely head, reachy neck into well laid shoulder and length and return of upperarm, good feet.  Good depth of chest, good spring of pastern and well knuckled feet. Long ribcage, firm tuck-up, wide and sweeping hindquarters.  Well muscled thigh and second thigh, broad hocks well let down.. Excellent construction throughout with no exaggeration. Moved well coming and going and freely in profile with good extension and drive.  CC & BOB.

2.  Bailey’s Kilbourne Jeniffer Jupiter To Greyflax.  Slightly longer cast than one, but overall well balanced.  Kind expression, strong neck into well laid shoulder, good depth of chest and spring of rib.  Firm tuck-up, well angulated and muscled hindquarters.  Moved true coming and a free, long striding action in profile.

3.  Peach’s Ain’t Miss Behavin At Kilbourne.

Veteran Bitch (1)

1.Adams Hydfron Ula For Zandahar ShCM.  Very attractive 8 yr old shown in excellent condition, coat just a bit soft. Dark eyes, soft expression, good reach of neck.  Well balanced angulation front and rear.  Good underline with firm tuck-up, low set hocks and well carried tail.   Movement true coming and going and a reachy stride in profile.  Overall flowing outline both standing and moving.
